Guy Babineau, Fashion Career Mentorship Program
With an influential, decades-long career as an award-winning fashion journalist, marketer, and educator, Guy decided to apply his experience to help recent fashion design graduates find their footing in the industry. He taught fashion marketing in three international fashion programs, developing more than two dozen courses. He became concerned when he saw that marketing students were getting entry level jobs but design grads were not. It was obvious that they weren't learning what they needed to know to navigate the industry. So, Guy created the Fashion Career Mentorship Program. Students in the program will benefit from Guy's experience in fashion but also beyond fashion. A child actor, he studied theater in university. This led to marketing positions in theater, which led to marketing and PR positions in book and magazine publishing, which led to working in fashion. Guy recently earned an MBA, but his teaching is informed by experience. He believes that the fashion industry should champion human rights, labor rights, and sustainability. Guy is the recipient of a lifetime achievement award in Fashion Journalism from Vancouver Fashion Week.
